The U-S Food and Drug Administration announced Friday that the hormone-disrupting chemical bisphenol A, also known as B-P-A, is safe. 

The FDA’s assessment of the chemical apparently relied on two studies—both of which were funded by the American Chemistry Council, Dow Chemical and Industry leaders.

Celeste Janssen is with the Oregon Center for Environmental Health, a group which has joined a coalition criticizing the FDA's announcement:

Several members of Congress have also criticized the report, contending that the FDA has bowed to pressure from the Bush Administration and the chemical industry.
