The recently released film “The History of Sound” staring Josh O’Connor and Paul Mescal is a love story between two musicologists in the 1920s who travel around rural Maine recording traditional folk ballads.

The leading ballad in the film is “Silver Dagger."  A young woman is told by her mother to turn away an untrustworthy male suitor so as to avoid a life of pain and heartbreak. Joan Baez recorded a modern version of it in 1960.

On Pastures of Plenty I will be playing 90 minutes of traditional music from the film and rural Maine.  Featured artists include Joan Baez (her early years), Gordon Bok, The Wailin’ Jennys, David Mallett, Edward “Sandy” Ives, Solas, Nathan Evans, Schooner Fare, The Chieftains, and others.

I hope you can tune in.  Also, please show your financial support for all the great public affairs and music programing that you love on KBOO. We can’t do it without you!
