With the ceasefire agreement in the Trump 20-point plan underway and Hamas's return of hostages and the release of close to 2000 Palestinians held in Israeli prisons, displays of joy and tenuous hope abound. For the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank, however, all the fundamental problems remain. And conditions on the ground are more brutal than two years ago. Jan Haaken speaks with David Finkel, an editor of Against the Current and a Middle Eastern scholar, about how this ceasefire differs from earlier ceasefires in Israel's genocidal campaign in Gaza, how to understand the US and geopolitical implications of this "peace plan," and how the Global Palestine movement must continue to take actions and mobilize.
