This International Women’s Day, Transpositive PDX will explore a timely affirmation: transgender women are women. As communities around the world celebrate the achievements of women and continue the fight for gender equality, today's program centers the voices and experiences of transgender women and their place within the broader movement for women’s rights and liberation.

Across society, transgender women are leaders, artists, workers, caregivers, and advocates who contribute profoundly to our communities. Yet they also face ongoing discrimination, exclusion, and violence. The conversation will challenge narratives that divide women and instead highlight the importance of solidarity across the full spectrum of womanhood.

International Women’s Day has always been about expanding the boundaries of equality. Throughout history, movements for women’s liberation have grown stronger when they have broadened their understanding of who belongs. This episode invites listeners to reflect on recognizing transgender women as women  and strengthens the larger struggle for dignity and human rights.

Transpositive PDX is hosted this week by G, Emma, Jean, and Sheila and airs on KBOO Community Radio 90.7 FM in Portland and streaming worldwide at kboo.fm. Join us Saturday, March 7th at 1:00 PM for this special International Women’s Day broadcast as we affirm that when we say women’s rights and women’s voices matter, transgender women are included.
