Solidarities: Views and Interviews from a socialist-feminist, anti-racist and anti-colonial point of view

This episode focuses on solidarities, alliances, and connections. Hosted by Frann Michel, it features these segments:

Critical Pedagogy Against Genocide:  Jan Haaken talks with Portland-area teachers Stephen Siegel and Ellen R  about the movement among educators to resist right-wing and Zionist attacks on critical pedagogy and the struggle within the NEA around cutting ties with the ADF.

LA Responds to ICE: Promise Li discusses the response in Los Angeles to the militarized federal ramping up of ICE detentions.  He discusses the role of the LAPD, the complicity of Democratic politicians, and the popular response that built on networks generated through mask blocs and other mutual aid actions, highlighting in particular the work of the Community Self-Defense Coalition and the LA Tenants Union.

Trump’s Brutal Immigration Policies: Dianne Feeley discusses Trump's brutal immigration policies and ways that those of us with citizenship can support our neighbors and build opposition to deportations.   This July 2025  talk is an earlier version of her discussion available in the September-October 2025 Against the Current.    Like Promise Li's discussion of resistance to ICE in Los Angeles and Ivan Drury Zarin's discussion of Capitalism's Enduring Use for Borders, shared previously on the Old Mole, this talk was part of an event held in July 2025 by the organization Solidarity on the Origins & Problems of the Anti-Migrant Panic. That panel discussion was the culmination of a reading and discussion group on the same topic.

More Resources Against Assaults on Immigrants

Dianne Feeley recommends this guide, which is designed for employers but can be fruitfully used by workers:  A Guide for Employers: What to Do if Immigration Comes to Your Workplace - NILC.  She also suggests a variety of resources available here:   An Injury to One is an Injury to All: Resources for Immigrant Workers and Allies | Labor Notes.
