Jan Haaken and Kali Simmons discuss the film KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON, directed by Martin Scorsese. The film is based on the 2017 non-fiction book by David Gunn and tells the story of the Osage tribe during an era when the discovery of oil on tribal lands in Oklahoma leads to wealth for Osage members and a series of tragedies including horrific killings. Dr. Simmons (Oglala Lakota) is an assistant professor of Indigenous Nations Studies at Portland State University. In her research and teaching, she examines representations of Indigenous Peoples in popular culture with an emphasis on the genres of horror and ethnography.
