A short tribute to Steve Nassar

Outstanding KBOO volunteer Steve Nassar is leaving his role as board-op and announcer for Democracy Now and Talk Radio. If you listen to Democracy Now at 7AM on KBOO, chances are you have heard Steve's voice during the breaks of the program, giving the legal I.D., the weather forecast, and the promos of what's coming up later in the morning. Recently he has been on-air on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. And he has helped every weekday morning during the Membership Drives.

Steve's contribution to the AM News and Public Affairs Department has been monumental, and we are very sad to see him go.

Steve began volunteering at KBOO in 2006. He had recently retired and had time on his hands. He also had a family connection, His mother, Jade Pekkala, was a volunteer at KBOO for 15 years, working as a receptionist, a host of Movin' On, a Program Committee member and more. Steve's brother Mark, who lives in Salem, helped start their community station KMUZ. He is also a longtime KBOO supporter. As Steve says, they are a "community radio family."

We'll also miss Steve's intrepid companion "Kush," and the late, beloved "Sky," both loyal radio dogs.

Steve's future plans include sleeping in. His wake-up time has been 4:30AM! He also hopes to add more yoga to his life.

Thank you Steve for all your incredible work!
