Predators lords of nature
The story of the ‘big bad wolf’ is being re-thought in Oregon and several other states, where new research has shown that wolves and other predators are essential to a healthy ecosystem.
The comeback of the wolf population was hotly debated at a federal court hearing in Montana today
It was also the topic of a new film which premiered last night at the Hollywood Theatre in Portland.
At today’s court hearing in Montana on whether restrictions on hunting wolves should be imposed at a federal level, hunters and farmers protested outside, saying they should be allowed to kill wolves.
Gray wolves were listed as endangered in 1974, but following a reintroduction program in the mid-1990s, there are now more than 1,700 in the Northern Rockies alone.- KBOO
