Washington’s White Salmon River has been named as one of America’s most endangered waterways.
The twenty-second annual America’s Most Endangered Rivers report has been released, and the Columbia River tributary is listed as number 5 on the 2007 list.
For almost a century, the Condit Dam, owned by PacificCorp., has cut off salmon and steelhead from reaching the Columbia.
The energy company has agreed to remove the dam, but the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has yet to approve the deal.
Amy Kober with American Rivers, which created the list, says their report highlights the rivers facing the most uncertain futures.
