PressWatch: Radioactivity in Portland/F29 success

US EPA Station 99 did detect an 86.8 reading for radioactive iodine in Portland on March 25th, 2011.  This compares to no reading or much lower readings in other cities, so the fact is, you did get dosed last year from Fukushima.  Does anyone remember, I wonder, that I cynically dismissed the official reassurances, and demanded that everyone take Kelp in order to load up with non-radioactive iodine?  I'm sorry to say "I told you so," but when it comes to nuclear power, never trust the governments of Japan, nor the US, nor any government that buys into poison power.

Press**Watch: Trimet to double fares: take action!

TriMet, the local bus service, proposes to effectively double fares for seniors-- who will have to purchase a separate fare for return trips.  Everyone, under their proposal, will have to buy a one-way ticket for $2.50-- if you don't qualify for the reduced "honored citizen" fare-- or buy a $5 day pass.
You may comment until March 2 on the website, which forces you to click through several pages of their justifications before you can get to the feedback form.  Here is the link without the propaganda:
I suggest TriMet apply via our Congressmen and Senators for federal funds.

Press**Watch: Occupy!

Earlier this week I was watching the live stream of the Occupy Wall Street protest, and a fellow worker asked what it was all about, and I realized I needed to start at the beginning with him.  So I explained how the Occupy Wall Street protests had come about as a result of historic conditions: the destruction of the Glass-Steagall regulations on banking, which had previously prevented gross speculation and gambling with mortgages but which was swept away by the neoconservatives under Senator Gramm, in the mid-Nineties.
