Desolo Luna Vox Theatrum

We return to the world of reading as experiment, painting as art, music as noise, interview as theater, "materials" as "archives," yes, Desolo Luna Vox Theatrum returns with four hours of dada, surrealism, and theatre of the absurd. Tonight, a tribute to the late artist Leonora Carrington, plus an anniversarial tip of the lid to the late Richard Francis (wherever he may be).  Tracy Cockrell, of Pacific Northwest College of Art, will be a guest, some "noise" by Don Hensen, he of the blond locks, some "neutral" time to catch your breath, then into the cuprescent mind of Antonin Artaud (possibly the inspiration for the Wizard of Oz, we're not making that up), and a grab bag of DLVT "greatest hits" to round out the mindnight hour. Pepsi and Moxie host.

Antonin Artaud's HERE LIES

program date:
Mon, 08/29/2011

An audio adaptation of Antonin Artaud's HERE LIES. Artaud was the founder of the Theater of Cruelity, and HERE LIES is one of his later poems.,  Produced by Rolf Semprebon and with voices by Conch, Rolf, Virginia Furr, Sweet Pea, the Notorious NTP, and Randy Saucepan.

Antonin Artaud (1896-1948): theater director, playwright, actor, poet, theorist, and visual artist. Surrealist and founder of Theater of Cruelity.
"Here Lies" was one of Artaud's last poems, written in the late 1940s after he'd been institutionalized and subjected to shock therapy. He produced some of his most brilliant works during these years.

Jet of Blood

program date:
Mon, 08/30/2010

A radio-theater dramatization of Antonin Artaud's short surrealist play, JET OF BLOOD (also translated as SPURT OF BLOOD)  written in 1925... Artaud presents a fantastic temporal spectrum of creation and destruction speeded up and slowed down, like a phonograph record. Associating gluttony and lust, sex and violence, even innocence and swinishness, The Jet of Blood attacks the senses with bizarre sights and sounds as it reaches toward our subconscious impulses and fears.

The play was adapted for radio by Rolf Semprebon and performed by Rolf, Zasus Sweetlips, G Violetta, Rascho, Dave Slacker, Jeff, Stella, and Christie.

Alfred Jarry's UBU CUCKOLDED

program date:
Mon, 11/30/2009

After tackling the other two Ubu plays written by ALFRED JARRY in the mid 1890s, KBOO's Ubu Hour finally takes on UBU CUCKOLDED (Ubu Cocu). These absurdist radio dramas were a major inspiration to the Surrealists and Dadaists that followed, and even after more than 110 years, retain their sting. Ubu Cuckolded was adapted for radio theater by Rolf Semprebon from the trnaslation by Cyril Connelly. Performed by Per Fagereng, David Nochumson, Barbara Tilche, John Madden, Revolution X, Butoh, Polka Dot, Conch, Sweet Tooth, Rolf, Zach Newman and Noah Eaton. With original music by the MASTER MUSICIANS OF KAZOO-KA.
