Village Building Convergence

Village Building Convergence and Urban Sustainability Special 2010

All day on July 30th, from 9am to 3pm, KBOO presents a special on Urban Sustainability with audio from this year's Village Building Convergence in Portland.  This year's special will include lectures by Starhawk and Paul Cienfuegos, as well as interviews with Native American youth in Portland and a special report on the first ever chicken palace!

Friday, July 30th Programming Schedule:

9am – 10am   Let Mark Lakeman, co-founder of City Repair, inspire you to create the world you want to live in. He speaks about City Repair, goals of the Village Building Convergence, and the “Power of the Crossroads.”

 

10am – 11:15   Paul Cienfuegos, author, activist, and teacher gives a talk entitled “Are We the People? Striving for a Future Where Our Actions Match the Crises/Opportunities We Face.”

 

11:15 – 11:45am   Hear excerpts from various project sites from around Portland and learn about the sustainable building of structures and communities. Project sites include: The Native American Youth and Family Center (NAYA), Chicken Palace construction, and Essential Elements Apothecary.

11:45am - 12pm   Musical Interlude featuring live recordings from the VBC evening events.

12pm-1pm   World-renown activist and author Starhawk speaks about "Earthly Delights: Creating True Abundance."

1pm - 1:30pm   Co-founder and Co-president of Gaia University, Liora Alder, gives a talk entitled: "The Embodied Activist: Ecosomatic Tools for Change"

1:30pm - 2pm   Transdisciplinary performer, teacher and community activist Nala Walla, speaks about "Reclaiming our Integrative Mind."

 2pm - 3pm Hear Rose High Bear speak on Native culture in North America
