The Willamette River Revival: A celebration of the future health of the Willamette River

Feduma Ali of Groundworks and Award winning Lewis and Clark historian and author of Shotgun on My Chest, Roger Wendlick. About the Willamette River Revival Taking Place August 2nd from 12 Noon – 7PM
The Confederated Tribes of the Grande Ronde generously endorsed this meeting of river enthusiasts to celebrate the plans in motion to heal our river. Our urge you to come and be a part of the celebration and the healing of the Willamette River.

With the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde presentation of Smoked Salmon and outstanding Portland bands, the Willamette River Revival will feature Decora, a hip hop artist with a “utopian vision that unites a folk music ethos with hip-hop and social change through community action.”
Biking to the event is encouraged and bike racks will be provided. The St. Johns Neighborhood Association will host a booth to photograph and register bike serial numbers as an aid in prevention of bicycle theft.
  • 12:00 pm – Traditional drumming by the Grand Ronde
    • 12:10 – Welcome and Introductions
    • 12:30 – Michael talks through salmon bake ritual and traditional view of the river system
  • 1:00 pm – Puddleton Ramblers band (traditional folk/bluegrass)
  • 2:00 pm – Introduction to Aztec dancers and Aztec dancers performance
  • 2:25 – Announcement of the walking tour of Baltimore Woods, meet at Friends of Baltimore Woods booth
  • 2:30 – Cascade Crescenco band (bluegrass/jamgrass)
  • 3:30 pm – Roger Wendlick, an entertaining speaker and historian on the Lewis & Clark expedition and Clark’s exploration of the lower Willamette. He is a life-long north Portlander and has many stories of growing up near the river.
  • 4:00 pm – The New Iberians (zydeco/blues)
  • 5:30 pm – Decora (hip hop)
  • 6:45 pm – Thank you from stage, invitation to after party and next year!
  • 7:00 pm – Close
A central feature of the Revival is a traditional salmon bake that starts at noon. A representative of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde will walk participants through the ritual. Along with the bake will be an environmental fair, a walking tour of the Baltimore Woods corridor at 2:30pm, food and drink vendors, an Occidental beer garden and other activities.
The event mission is to reconnect with the lower Willamette River as a community asset while learning about the superfund clean up and other environmental issues that affect us.
