Encouragement and tips on how to garden throughout the winter in a maritime climate

WINTER GARDENING with LIVING CITY

As winter solstice approaches, growing vegetables is probably one of the furthest things from most people's minds during this cold and rainy part of the year. Yet, in Portland's mild maritime climate, it is possible to harvest home-grown vegetables throughout the winter. If you've always found winter gardening too daunting, this episode of Locus Focus may inspire you to get a little wet and muddy this winter. We're joined by Katie Nichols, Sarah Canterberry and Rachel Freifelder, co-founders of Living City, a community education program based in the Cully neighborhood of Northeast Portland. They'll give us answers to basic questions that help demystify winter gardening: what do I grow, how do I grow it?
