How Republicans Went Crazy, Democrats Became Useless, and the Middle Class Got S

Host Cecil Prescod speaks with Mike Lofgren who spent twenty-eight years working in Congress, the last sixteen as a senior analyst on the House and Senate Budget committees, which gave him an insider’s look at the Bush tax cuts, the Troubled Asset Relief Program, Hurricane Katrina disaster relief, debates on the Pentagon budget, and the various deficit-reduction commissions.

William Bryant Logan reflects on all the questions about air that you never thought to ask.

AIR: THE RESTLESS SHAPER OF THE WORLD - An Interview with William Bryant Logan

We are dependent on air to sustain us, but rarely do we reflect on this fluid, boundless and unpredictable element of our planet. How do birds fly and why do they often fly in V formation? How do tornados form? How far can winds carry dust? Why is weather so difficult to predict? What is the impact of poisonous gases that may come from our cozy, new furniture? How does pollen help palynologists establish the rhythm of the ice ages? On this episode of Locus Focus we talk with author William Bryant Logan about the intricacies and mysteries of the air we breathe.

Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine

The Encylopedia of Natural Medicine is a classic reference guide in the field. The recently released third edition is revised and expanded to include the latest cutting-edge natural therapies for the most common ailments.  Murray and Pizzorno present an evidence-based approach to wellness, based on firm scientific findings. They aim to dispel the notion that natural medicine isn’t “real medicine,” offering examples and studies that show the efficacy of a holistic approach to patient care. This book grounds the reader in the seven major tenets of natural medicine and covers important topics in health care today, including cancer prevention, detoxification, and internal cleansing.

Clint Werner discusses his book: Marijuana, Gateway to Health--how Cannabis protects us from disease

The Radiozine welcomes Clint Werner, author of Marijuana, Gateway to Health. In this recently published book, Werner presents the science that supports cannabis as a potent medicine in treating cancer, Alzheimer's, and other diseases. He also takes a hard look at the history and politics behind the criminalization of marijuana. Werner's information is especially pertinent this fall, as Oregonians consider voting on Measure 80 and whether to legalize and regulate marijuana. Hosted by Stephanie Potter.

"This book should be required reading for all medical professionals, elected officials, and everyone interested in health and wellness."  --Andrew Weil, M.D.

Ray Bradbury Tribute

This will be our first Halloween without Ray Bradbury, who passed away last spring. So, Fortunato will re-air the two short stories of his that we aired back then. 'Fog Horn', about a prehistoric sea monster who awakens in the deep to the "love call" of a lighthouse's fog horn. And Bradbury's first story to be printed in the slick paper magazines of the late 1940's, 'The Night'. An eight year old boy and his mother are waiting up one summer night for his older brother to return home from playing with his friends.  As it gets later, and he has not appeared, they fear there is something in the darkness... . Mrs White joins us for tonight's show.
