Here comes your community calendar for July 17th and 18th, just a small sampling of the huge amount of excellent events happening in portland this weekend.

Come to “Telling Our Stories:: A Queer Writing Workshop”, a dynamic writing experience  designed especially to nurture LGBTQ folks who don’t consider themselves writers. Its this Saturday at 6:30 at In Other Words Bookstore, 8B NE Killingsworth street in Portland. Theres a suggested donation of ten to thirty bucks with no one turned away for lack of funds. Marie Mason is serving almost 22 years for two acts of environmentally-motivated property destruction in which no one was hurt. The Shine or Shine Fest is this Saturday from 12-8pm at 5233 SE 39th Ave. This event is free and all ages and will feature fantastic summertime drinks, bodacious BBQ, and the sunshiny musings of many bands!

The Cathedral Park Jazz Festival is this weekend and promises to provided a very diverse audience the opportunity to enjoy Jazz, in a beautiful setting. Cathedral Park is at the corner of North Richmond ave and north crawford st. Go to cp jazz.com for a full schedule.

This Sunday is the East Portland Sunday Parkway from 10am to 3pm. The car-free route will have a 4 and a half mile loop, connecting Ed Benedict, Bloomington and Lents Parks. Food, music and activities are located in the parks and along the route. head to portland online.com for details.
