Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said Tuesday that Russia will respond calmly to an increase in ships belonging to the North American Treaty Organization, or NATO, in the Black Sea.
The number of NATO ships increased in the aftermath of the short war with Georgia.
there are currently two U.S., one Polish, one Spanish and one German ship in the Black sea.
Meanwhile, other Russian officials sternly warned the West that it would lose more than Moscow would if it tried to punish Russia with sanctions over the war with Georgia.
Russia has repeatedly complained that NATO has too many warships in the Black Sea.
While tensions remain high between Georgia and Russia, there has been no overt violence in over a week.
