If you live in Portland, you're probably familiar with the High School redesign controversy.  Tonight at the Portland School Board meeting there are also plans of a rally on the Teachers' Contract Negotiations and Parents' oppositions to the contract with the Department of Defense Starbase Program.  Allies are invited to attend the School Board meeting at 6.45pm tonight at 501 N Dixon, on the northeast end of the Broadway Bridge.

The Portland School Board will hold a work session on the resolution as part of its regular board meeting on Monday, Feb. 22, and will schedule further opportunities for community input before the planned vote March 8.

Also on Monday evening:

  • The board will vote on recommendations to eliminate key diploma requirements for its Pathways program. This would allow PPS to create a more robust and meaningful career readiness and exploration program that dovetails with the current process of PPS High School System Design.
  • The board will vote on a contract with SEER Analytics to help with detailed technical analysis of various options for optimal community comprehensive sites and boundaries. The work, which is paid for by a federal grant specifically for this type of project, will be in two stages, and linked to analysis of optimal focus school locations.
