Community Calendar – weekend of April 18th and 19th, 2009

Greetings and Happy International Creativity and Innovation Week! My name is Natalie and this is the KBOO Community Calendar for the weekend of April 18th and 19th. No worries about innovating a way to write down this information really quickly because you can read and play it again at the KBOO.fm website.

Tonight is the 20th annual Art Evening and Auction benefiting Cascade AIDSProject. Portland’s arts community first organized the event, and continue to be involved, as artists are donating approximately 275 contemporary works of art this year. The evening’s bidding, fueled by food and entertainment, will take place at the Oregon Convention Center. For information, check the cascadeaids.org website.
For another lively option on Saturday evening, you can swing your hips over to Sizzling Salsa Night at the Lawrence Gallery in the Pearl District at 903 NW Davis St. You are invited to enjoy tapas, sangria, salsa lessons, silent auction, and of course dancing, with all proceeds benefiting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. For more information, please call (503) 224-1591.
On Sunday at 2pm, local chapters of Americans United for the Separation of Church and State present a Symposium on Same-Sex Marriage and the 1st Amendment. Co-sponsors include Portland State University Women’s Studies Department, Basic Rights Oregon, Love Makes a Family, and the Portland JACL (Japanese American Citizens League). The panel, including lawyers, professors, and clergy, will be held at PSU’s Hoffmann Hall, and is free and open to the public. More information is available at www.keepthemseparate.org.

To read or hear about events, please check out kboo.fm/communitycalendar.  In honor of World Creativity and Innovation Week, as well upcoming Earth Day, this is Natalie wishing you a week that’s filled with imagination and trees that you hug you back.
