Community Calendar – weekend of May 16th and 17th, 2009

Greetings. This is Natalie with the KBOO Community Calendar on Memorial Day weekend. Recordings are also available at the kboo.fm website.

The annual Memorial Day ceremony at the Oregon Vietnam Veterans Memorial starts at 10 a.m. on Monday May 25. The Memorial is located off of Highway 26  west of downtown Portland at the Zoo/Hoyt Arboretum/Vietnam Memorial exit.

The Iraqi Names Project will be chalking names this weekend between 11am-2pm on NE MLK BLVD between NE Holladay and E Burnside. On Memorial Day, Monday May 25th, they will be drawing at Peace Park.

The public is invited to help chalk and remember the deceased.

For more information, visit http://iraqnamesproject.wordpress.com/.

Veterans For Peace Chapter 72 will commemorate Memorial Day at the Memorial Coliseum’s “forgotten walls” followed by a walk to the Peace Memorial Park of Portland.
They invite the public to share in a quiet ceremony, including reflection on all victims of war, military and civilians alike.
The Peace Memorial Park is dedicated to the memory of all people everywhere who have ever perished in warfare, in the hope that like-minded people will join with its sponsors and creators in the effort to put an end to war so that humankind can live in peace.
