Happy happy Monday! This is Margaret with YOUR COMMUNITY CALENDAR for the twenty-first day of June 2009.

The Trans’ and Womyn’s Action Camp is a gathering of eco-activists who are also working to bring down patriarchy. This will be a safe(r) space, 6 day training and workshop event in the Cascadia bio-region. TWAC is for folks who identify as any variety of female, transgender, genderqueer or intersex. There will be space to share skills in a supportive, empowering and encouraging environment.
And it's going on right now, through Friday the 26th, about 60 miles outside of Portland. More information is available at http://twac.wordpress.com/

Portland Books to Prisoners mailing nights happen on Mondays & Tuesdays 5-8pm at 1112 NE Morton, between Dekum and Ainsworth.
If folks want to get involved, but can't make mailing nights, there are lots of other volunteer tasks that need to be done, and book donations are always welcome.

*****************
1112 N Morton is just east of MLK Jr. Blvd, and west of NE 15th.
To get there, take buslines #75 or #8 to Dekum, and go south on Bellevue, Durham or 13th to Morton, which is a short street that connects all three.

* In Other Words Books 8 NE Killingsworth, (at N. Williams)
* Rocco's Pizza SW 10th & Oak
* Hollywood Theatre 4122 NE Sandy Blvd
* Blackrose Collective Bookstore, 4038 N. Mississippi Ave
* Food For Thought Cafe, PSU Smith Hall Food Court (basement)
* Mississippi Records, 4007 N Mississippi Ave

Our most common requests are for dictionaries and thesauruses, as prisoners work to educate themselves. We are primarily looking for donations of books with educational content; including his/herstory, black studies, indigenous studies, latina/o studies, feminism, queer studies, foreign language learning, materials in Spanish and radical fiction. We do not want old textbooks (unless they're law or GED workbooks, math or basic science, and not hardcover), and we really don't need cookbooks, or old computer books.
