As new members of SEIU and members of the Portland area Haitian community, the Laurelhurst Nursing Home is holding a Community and Labor Potluck and Fundraiser for Haiti from 5 to 7pm tonight.

As you know, February is Black History Month and the Portland Community College Cascade campus is celebrating with its yearly Cascade Festival of award-winning African films on their campus Moriaty, as well as Hollywood Theatre and McMenemins Kennedy School. The PCC Sylvania Campus kicks off ‘American Heart Month’ with its second annual “Heart Beat” health fair to celebrate ways to gain and maintain heart health. There are several activities that will be hosted by several of PCC’s allied health departments: current handouts and a chance to speak with a heart disease survivor and former health care responder; free blood pressure screenings; as well as information about the connection between oral disease and heart disease by the Dental department; Testing in body mass index; Par Q form; Waist-Hip ratio; a step test; and proper equipment usage by the Fitness Technology department; and more from the departments of Nutrition, Nursing, Radiography, Early Education Family Studies and Child Development Center.
This all takes place tommorow, Tuesday, February 9th, from 11am to 1pm at PCC Sylvania. This event is free and open to the public. Bike or walk to campus for your heart, since there is a parking fee.
