It's about time to recycle holiday trees and greenery. This weekend and next,  dozens of community groups will be collecting trees for recycling as fundraisers. Some groups will be coming through neighborhoods picking up trees and others have drop-off sites.  A complete list can be found at www.oregonmetro.gov/findrecycler or by calling 503-234-4000.
Before recycling trees, remove all lights, wire, tinsel, ornaments, nails, stands, frames and other materials that are not a part of the tree. The trees will be ground up as part of the recycling process. Anything left on the tree can damage equipment and non-organic materials can’t be composted. Also, remove frames and wire from wreaths, swags and garlands. Christmas trees and other greenery can also be recycled through curbside yard debris collection programs.

Food Not Bombs puts Portland's wasted food to good use by serving hot vegan meals to the community. Tomorrow, Saturday, they'll be serving downtown at the Riot Elephant at West Burnside and Park.  New volunteers are always welcome.
