Day of Silence focused call-in show on Tues 4/29
The National Day of Silence was Friday April 25th. This is the largest student-led day of action in the country. Many schools in the Portland metro area, as well as nationally, participated in this event. This year's event was held in honor of Lawrence King, a 15 year old killed in school by a classmate because he was gay and non-gender conforming.
Did you participate in the Day of Silence at your school? Would you like to tell your story on the radio?
For our next Out Loud show, I'd like to invite Day of Silence participants to call into the radio show to tell their story to our listeners - live!
A few rules apply. Just like life, KBOO has to play by the rule, specifically, the ones set by the FCC.
1) call into KBOO studio between 6:05 and 6:20 pm on Tue 4/29 (coming soon)?
2) call on a land line (NO cell phone calls)
3) tell your story in 3 to 5 minutes
4) tell your story with OUT swear words, sexual body part words, and NO bashing or trash talking an indvidual. (the FCC doesn't care about trash talking, but it's not the KBOO Way.)
If all of these are true for you, then consider calling into the show to add your voice to the discussion!
The KBOO studio line: 503-231-8187
The Day of Silence focus show: Tues April 29 from 6 to 6:30 pm
Tell us: what school you go to, what grade you're in, how the day was for you, the good and bad of how your school community participated, showed support, or lack of.... You don't have to say your name, or your real name, unless you want to, and want the listening world to know you.
Thank you for adding your voice to the discussion!
Update: Cleveland HS had about 150 students participate, full support of school administration, and most teachers supportive of the event. Oregon City HS had many students participate, most teachers supportive, and hopefully, we'll hear from some of these students during the show! Grant HS had a high level of participation, full support of school admin, and positive feedback from staff. Beaverton schools participated. Portland State University hosted the Night of Noise event and they had a great turn out, with a wide range of youth ages represented and a variety of community groups too.
