Activists and Police Dodge Oil Tankers at Kittridge and Front

A few Portland activists picketed an oil terminal today to protest the construction of oil pipelines across the nation – but the scene appeared to feature violence directed at protesters and even police.

The action was called Attack the Black Snake PDX, and it was at the Phillips 66 gas station near an oil transport hub at Northwest Kittridge and Front Avenue.

Demonstrators simply walked back and forth inside the crosswalk on Northwest Kittridge Street.

One officer and pedestrian almost got hit by a speeding oil tanker who appeared to be aiming at demonstrators.

A second motorist also almost got hit by a vehicle that appeared to be aiming at the demonstrators.

Protesters became agitated at the Portland Police’s refusal to stop the dangerous drivers.

KBOO’s Chris Andreae took audio from the scene and interviewed Jesse Sponberg.
