Short Description:
Nigeria 70: Fela Anikulapo Kuti

Fela Anikulapo Kuti. The best for last....

This, the third of three shows devoted to 1970s Nigeria and the advent of Afrobeat sums it all up: FELA.

One of the most iconic musical figures of the late 20th century, Fela Anikulapo Kuti and Afrika 70's soul-jazz-R&B infused highlife, propelled by Yoruba rhythms layered with Afro-Cuban cláve and a deep funk groove carrying the message of an anti-colonial, Pan-African, anti-corrupt-global-corporate world view has become an enduring legacy, inspiring generations of musicians, listeners, and activists world-wide.

this week's host: Andy Hosch

note: I had planned to air an hour-long audio documentary "Nigeria 70", produced, recorded, and editied by Sue Bowerman for the Strut Records compilation of the same name, but instead will upload the documentary to You ought to be able to download or listen there.
