Old Mole Variety Hour July 2, 2012
Frann Michel hosts this show focused on health care, healthism, and health care activism. Looking forward to the 4th of July, the introduction also includes a brief discussion, drawing from the work of Bill Bigelow and Ray Raphael at the Zinn Education Project, of the prehistory of the US Declaration of Independence in many earlier declarations by local assemblies.
Then, we hear about the implications of the Supreme Court decision on the Affordable Care Act and activism in Oregon for single-payer health care; a review of The Healthcare Movie about US & Canadian healthcare systems; a commentary on "healthism"; and a review of the documentary Pink Ribbons, Inc.
Musical interludes: The Decembrists performing "Sickness" by The Donner Party; "The End of Medicine" by The New Pornographers; "I Don't Need No Doctor" by Ray Charles; "Doctor, Doctor" by The Who.
