Unchaste Readers Series & Giving Vegetable Gardens Charity

Bread and Roses highlights two local organizations doing good works to benefit women and the community.

6:00-6:20 PM  Unchaste Readers Series:  Provides a forum for local women and women-identified writers to give voice to their work for an audience.  The brand new Unchaste University offers a series of writing courses and is committed to connecting women author/teachers with women writers—to support author/teachers financially, and support women writers artistically.  Guest is Jenny Forrester, Founder and Curator.

A poem written especially for the show by poet, Jami Dinges:
A Better Life From the Bottom Up
Today,
there is a senseless greed
a future, the people
to which they now feed
they're fading in health
suffering by hands
to which they are dealt
we must rise together
and support this just cause
now from the bottom up
countless hunger it draws
a natural mission
to regain control
the process foods claim
now taking its toll
as a community
each garden preserved
less fortunate souls
given food they deserve
helping maintain
a right once believed
to give in demand
a goal we've achieved
to help this world change
together we stand
as our efforts pave way
to a design much more grand
a thank you to many
who believe in our fight
a charity by name
we strengthen our right
