http://site.recy-cal.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/paper-recycling.jpgHave you ever wondered where your recyclable paper goes after you place it in the bin at the curb in Portland? As it turns out, most of it is shipped off to China for reprocessing. Local paper mill workers are asking, why not process it locally and create local jobs? And how can we hold our legislators accountable for those choices? Host Bill Zimmerman speaks with Steve Hughes, State Director of Oregon Working Families Party, and Greg Pallesen, International Vice President of the Association of Western Pulp and Paper Workers, to talk about this issue and the sad fate of HB 4142 in this year's legislative session. Later in the show, Bill is joined by Kedir Wako, chair of the Portland Drivers Self Help Association, to talk about conditions in the taxi industry and why workers are organizing to support themselves and one another.
