The Abe and Joe Talk Radio Show on 02/07/12

Air date:
Tue, 02/07/2012 - 8:00am - 9:00am
Short Description:
Abe and Joe look back on a good couple of weeks for women. Also -- pledge drive!

It's been a good couple of weeks for women. First, there was the ruling that nonprofits must cover contraception in their employees' health plans, even if doing so runs counter to church doctrine. Then there was the stunning betrayal -- and equally stunning reversal -- by the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Both were victories for the notion of women as full human beings, and, crucially, both were won in the court of public opinion.

Also, it's fund-raising time. Open yer wallets in the name of our fair sisters, y'all.

Women

I was unable to call in because I was in the car, but I have two points of view I would like to add to the discussion on today's show.

One is this: as a woman I already am a complete human being.  This is a unequivical and universal truth.  Our society has chosen to dishonor that truth.

Two is this: As a woman, man is not my measuring stick.  I am not a man.  Why would an apple use an orange to gauge it's self-evaluation?  I look to other women in history and current life to help guide me through my journey as a complete human being.  Equality, to me, is to honor the fact that men and women are different biological beings but complete humans who deserve respect for who and what they are; on all levels of humanness.

Thank you for the show!
