Tonight we heard various releases from the Grrr label, out of France, which was started by Jean-Jacques Birge in 1975 with the release of Birge/Gorge/Shiroc's LP DEFENSE DE. The next year Birge and Francis Gorge formed UN DRAME MUSICAL INSTANTANE with free-jazz trumpeter/multi-instrumentalist Bernard Vitet, and Grrr put out several of their records, along with those of like-minded musicians, some-times collaborators like Helene Sage, Michelle Buirette and others. This music blended free jazz, rock, and new music/modern classic into highly creative ways.
