The Trans-Pacific Partnership: corporatism gone wild.
The Trans-Pacific Partnership, now under negotiation, would be the latest chapter in the ongoing transition away from nation-states -- and toward multinational corporations -- as the ultimate repositories of political and economic power. The agreement, if ratified, would undermine the United States' ability to enforce environmental, health, and labor regulations, further weaken our protections against surveillance, deregulate banks, and -- perhaps most importantly -- put corporations outside the reach of legal remedy.
