HALO Foundation in Portland Helping and Healing Children through Art

Host Ren Green speaks with Chris West, director of the HALO Foundation about the Foundation's work letting kids heal from past traumas through srt, dance, music and theater. They also foster education, medical attention, mentorship, and other necessities for growth in a healthy environment.

The HALO Foundation is a volunteer-based non-profit that runs an orphanage in Uganda, taking care of kids who have lost their families to HIV/AIDS, disease, or military conflict.

In Portland, HALO partners with organizations to bring art-based curriculum's into their programs, working with different facilities within the Trillium Family service network, and programs like Southeast works providing art therapy sessions, and time for kids to be expressive through song, dance, theater or other art forms.

The 2nd Annual Art of Love auction will be held on Aug. 3rd at the Oregon Tile & Marble Showroom. The Art of Love event is a night where artwork from kids in the Bukesa Children's home and art from local programs is on display and up for auction alongside beautiful artwork from local artists.  Both the child artwork and professional art share the stories of whoever created them, and the theme that emerges is how similar we all are in what we dream about for our lives, whether we live in Africa or Portland.
