Some times there is a guest on my show who is under-recognized. My show is sort of a show for under-recognized artists anyway, but for Un|Herd on September 7th, 2009, I have a real treat. There will be solo performances and a special duet from...

Moth, or Tim Alexander, has been performing "noise" since 1981, in Points of Friction, and currently in Fiasco and the Joiful Noiz Band. Friction was released on Solid Eye and re-released on Anomalous. He recieved his M.A. in Sculpture from Claremont University in California (1987). He is published and has lectured on the subject of art and sculpture. His work has been featured in galleries all over the L.A. area through the 80's and 90's, until moving to Portland in the late 90's where his work continued to find exhibition. Tim's current occupation: Professional Magician. Doesn't that seem appropriate for someone who has made noise from unsuspecting devices and psychedelic art for 30 years? When L.A. noise artist, Mitchell Brown discovered Points of Friction in Los Angeles, there was a revitalized appreciation for their work, and a reunited band for the 2004 Melon Expander Records release, "Afterlife DNA Finger-Painting". But as of yet, very few have pulled Tim aside to feature him alone. This is why I am proud to present, Moth performing solo.

In addition to Moth, we will enjoy a solo performance of...

Abusive/Consumer is the output of one J Morales. He’s spent the last 20 years playing drums/percussion in a variety of situations including Primitive Industrial, Free Jazz, Prog Rock and Improv (of all stripes). He finally grew tired of asking people to help haul around his arsenal - as he doesn’t like cars and their attendant woes. Lately he has been filling a suitcase with mixers, oscillators, delays, microphones and found percussives - tooling around with the sound of electricity wherever he can find a place to plug in. His use of feedback systems, looping, synthesis and chance operations are inspired by the work of minimalists and maximalists like Pan Sonic, Phil Niblock, Iannis Xenakis, Arne Nordheim, Einsturzende Neubauten, Bastard Noise and Arvo Part . His music varies between the completely improvised and the open ended composition – making a pastiche of Electro-Acoustic/Microsound/Dark Ambient/Noise/Progressive Synth/Digital Hardcore- never tying himself up in stylistic confines within a given performance or piece. ALL MUSIC ALL AT ONCE!
