Host Marianne Barisonek speaks with Leonard Cerda, a young anti-oil and climate activist from Ecuador, who is affiliated with the Rising Tide network. He has conducted workshops around the Amazon in different indigenous villages to explain the causes and the future consequences of the oil industry. He and other young people are
now working on issues related to environmental protection including sovereignty, coal mining, indigenous resistance, organic products cooperatives and others. Now Cerda is part of an organization called FAOICIN that is running a campaign to promote sustainable projects and cultural identity and to promote the recovery of ancestral customs through the formulation of policies in the communities' interest. Cerda is also in charge of the human rights club at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito.
