Quebec Students Win Reversal of Tuition Hike: Joe Meyer speaks with Quebec Organizer

And students in Quebec have succeeded in getting the government to fully repeal the tuition hike.

Newly-elected Premier Pauline Marois, who promised during the campaign to support the students, also promised to examine the possibility of eliminating tuition altogether.

The students argue that in many countries, like cuba and costa rica, higher education is merit-based, and students who qualify do not have to pay anything to go to university.

Student leaders say that they have written a new chapter in the history of Quebec.

Students in quebec currently pay about twenty one hundred dollars a year in tuition and fees.  They were protesting an increase of six hundred dollars a year.

KBOO’s Joe Meyer spoke with Quebec activist Benjamin for a victory lap.
