So much for due proccess. For that matter, so much for Hope. For Barack Obama's grassroots voter base, this may be the very last straw. In an election season deeply contaminated by super-pac money and corporate agendas Obama has apparently cast his lot with the highest bidder. The rest of us just aren';t worth the political capital.... So we have come to this: Pentagon officials are going ahead with
military trials for five alleged conspirators in the September 11 attacks.
Bruce MacDonald, formally referred the cases for a joint trial at Guantanamo Bay. McDonald is the official who oversees military commissions, MacDonald referred to the cases as "capital," meaning the defendants face the possibility of the death penalty - not meaning the president faces the possibility of not getting elected unless he raises vast sums of money.
The five defendants, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Walid Muhammad Salih Mubarak Bin 'Attash, Ramzi Binalshibh, Ali Abdul Aziz Ali, and Mustafa Ahmed Adam al Hawsawi, will likely be arraigned at Gitmo within 30 days.
The men were charged in a military commission proceeding in 2008, during the Bush administration. However, the incoming Obama administration halted those proceedings in 2009 and worked with Congress to pass legislation making several changes to commission procedures.
The 9/11 trial was delayed further after Attorney General Eric Holder announced plans to try the men in civilian federal court in New York City. Objections from local officials, business leaders, and lawmakers led the White House to scuttle that plan.- KBOO
