A Washington state judge has dismissed a lawsuit brought by a former Hanford nuclear worker alleging that he was unfairly dismissed after raising safety concerns. Walter Tamosaitis says that his case demonstrates a major flaw with Washington state law – which lacks protection for whistleblowers. He has filed a second lawsuit against the Department of Energy and a contractor used in the cleanup of the nuclear site, alleging that the cleanup is not following safety regulations, and is exposing workers and residents to dangerous radioactive contamination.
Hanford is one of the largest and oldest nuclear manufacturing and storage sites in the US. It is upstream of Portland, along the banks of the Columbia River.
Walter Tamosaitis speaks more about yesterday’s dismissal of the case.
