Today, we received the devastating news that in Tacoma, WA at the Federal Courthouse, Briana Waters, former non-cooperating Green Scare prisoner imprisoned for participation in the September 2001 arson of the Litchfield Wild Burro and Horse Corrals in Susanville, California and 2001 University of Washington Horticulture Building arson, took a cooperating plea deal.
My opinion of this whole fazzbung constitutes yet another chapter in 'American Heuristics 101': Back in the middle of June, Briana Waters cut a cooperating plea deal with government prosecutors. Waters agreed to inform on and ultimately testify against her former partner, Justin Solondz. For his part, Solondz was caught while on the run in China and killed time by serving a three-year sentence on drug-related charges while awaiting extradition back to the U.S. where he will face trial for the ELF related actions. The story’s got everything: informants, entrapment, “ecoterror”…everything except for any real harm to humans. Far, far away, while all this is going on, on Wall Street, a few very wealthy sociopaths made astronomical unimaginable amounts of money by grinding up the rest of us and spitting us out. One or two of these guys were charged, tried and – to their great astonishment – sentenced. And after a brief season of false repentance, free market freeloaders returned to their familiar feeding grounds. And a handful of people who acted on the courage of their convictions were charged, tried, sentenced to absurdly lengthy seasons in Hell.
And Don't Expect to Buy Your Way Out Because...
The Labor Department had bad news for the 99 percent of Americans who have not benefited from thwe wholesale looting of the nation. Only 18,000 net jobs in June, the fewest in nine months. But what do you expect when you cut government back to nothing In the past eight months, federal, state and local governments have cut a combined 238,000 jobs. The unemployment rate is at a year-to-date high,. Businesses added only 57,000 jobs, but 39,0000 government positions fell by the wayside.
Putting it all in perspective, the economy typically needs to add 125,000 jobs every month just to keep up with the increasing population. And at least twice that many new jobs are needed to bring down the unemployment rate. It has been above 8 percent for 29 months, the longest streak since the 1930s. President Obama’s solution is baffling: handing Social Security over to the same people who created the deficit in the first place. And then endorsing trade deals that will further bleed the few jobs we still have.- KBOO
