Rabbit New Year, Education Equity, Rose Court, From Persia to Iran, Landslides in Oregon

There will be a panel discussion tonight on “Leveling the Playground: Equity and Education”
at the Multnomah County Building, 501 SE Hawthorne, from 7 to 8.30pm.  The League of Women Voters is inviting the public to discuss the issues, concerns, and possible solutions for achieving educational equity in Portland's Public Schools.  Speaking will be Doug Wells from the Community and Parents for Public Schools, Nichole Maher of the Native American Youth Family Center, and Dan Jamison of the Chalkboard Project. A question and answer period will follow the presentations and this event will be televised and aired on cable access television in the following weeks. It will also be available on the LWV-PDX  [dot] org website.

Nominations are now open for the Breast Friends’ Compassion Award.  Every year, in the spring, Breast Friends, a support network for women with cancer, announces the winner of the annual, “Compassion Award,” given to someone in Oregon or S.W. Washington that has demonstrated outstanding patient support.  The award is presented at the April 30 “Joy of Life,” fundraiser.  
To nominate someone you think exemplifies compassion, visit www.Breast Friends.com, print and fill out a Nomination Form, and mail or fax it no later than February 21.

There is a Landslide Risk Reduction Meeting tonight from 6.30 to 8.30pm at OHSU.
The Portland Office of Emergency Management, along with the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries and several neighborhood associations, will hold this public gathering to discuss landslide sites throughout the city and what actions property owners can take to reduce their risk of damage.
