Here Comes the Weekend community calendar for January 29th and 30th

Celebrate the lunar new year customs of china and Vietnam at the library this Sunday.

The event includes; Vietnamese spelling bee and a Vietnamese writing contest, a traditional dress pageant, a lion dance, crafts, and food. The event is free and is this Saturday from 1pm to 3pm at the Gregory Heights library located at 7921 North East Sandy Boulevard.

Enjoy opera? This Sunday the Central Library will be have a lecture slash concert that will cover; historical background, composer information and musical selections about the upcoming Portland Opera Turn-a-dot, an opera that is about an Icy fairytale princess and a young lover. The event is Free and is this Sunday from 2pm to 3pm at the Downtown Central Library in the Collins Gallery. The Central Library is located at 801 South West 10th Avenue next to Pioneer court house square. For more information call 503-988-5123

Every Sunday Evening there is a Free community film night behind the Star e Rose Cafe.  The films show thought-provoking, social and political documentaries and afterwards there are informal discussions where people can share their thought feelings on the film.  This Sundays film is Collapse, a film about the finacial crisis.

The films are on Sundays and start at 6pm and right behind the Star e Rose Cafe at 5014 NE 24th.

The Portland Police Bureau is currently preparing their budget, and is inviting the community to provide input.  The Police Bureau would like to hear from people about their specific needs in regard to the core services the Police Bureau provides.

The Bureau has posted a survey on its website, where community members can identify the top three priorities facing their neighborhood that could benefit from increased police services or patrols. To access the survey, go to portland police dot com.
