On Tuesday October 27, 2015, at 11.30am Joseph Gallivan interviews Blake Shell of the Art Gym at Marylhurst University. Shell talks about the show "Kartz Ucci – an opera for one" which runs through December 5, 2015. Shell will discuss going through the artist’s computer hard drive looking for digital art after Ucci’s death, and the way her work relates to Pablo Neruda’s love poetry.

The Art Gym will present the retrospective exhibition kartz ucci–an opera for one from October 4 to December 5, 2015. This exhibition will celebrate her digital, text, sound, and installation art. Ucci joined the University of Oregon faculty in 2004 and taught art and digital arts in Eugene and the White Stag campus in Portland. Ucci's work was included in the Portland Biennial in 2010, and exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in California, Oregon, Washington, and Toronto, Ontario, Canada. This talented and prolific artist passed away in 2013 at 52 years of age.
In connection with this exhibition, Kartz Ucci's 256 Shades of Grey will be installed at The Alexander Gallery at Clackamas Community College's Oregon City campus from November 9 to December 11, 2015.
An accompanying catalogue, with essays by Abby Dononvan and Prudence Roberts, will be released at the Hollywood Theater screening of Ucci's an opera for one. An artist book by Ucci, an opera for one, an opera for scriabin is reprinted in its entirety within the catalogue.
The Art Gym is supported by the Robert and Mercedes Eichholz Foundation, the Oregon Arts Commission, and the National Endowment for the Arts. The Art Gym’s publication fund is supported by the Harold & Arlene Schnitzer CARE Foundation and Linda Hutchins and John Montague. This exhibition is supported by the Regional Arts & Culture Council and Work for Art; the Clackamas County Cultural Coalition and Oregon Cultural Trust; the School of Architecture and Allied Arts of the University of Oregon; Erin Gardner; Sarah Miller Meigs; Stephanie Snyder, John and Anne Hauberg Curator and Director of the Douglas F. Cooley Memorial Art Gallery, Reed College. Other individuals and businesses provided additional support.
Joseph Gallivan has been a reporter since 1990. He has covered music for the London Independent, Technology for the New York Post, and arts, culture and now business for the Portland Tribune. He is the author of two novels, "Oi, Ref!" and "England All Over" which are available on Amazon.com
