Two special events with Hasan Salaam in Celebration of Black History Month

KBOO is proud to sponsor two special Black History events at Portland State University, on Thursday February 21st featuring east coast emcee, educator and community organizer Hasan Salaam. First is a multi-media presentation on the history of Black music titled, “ From Spiritual to Hip Hop. “ this will take place at Noon at the  Smith Memorial Union on the 2nd floor. The second event  is a hip hop show with local progressive artists, Siren’s Echo and March 4th. This will happen at 7pm at the Food For Thought Café in the basement of the Smith Memorial Union.

From Spirituals to Hip Hop
A multimedia musical exploration of the history of Black music, Black culture and Black resistance, designed to help those who attend gain a better understanding of how Black Music in America has been a weapon in the fight for freedom, justice, and equality. To show how the social and political climate that gave birth to each generation and form of our music from The Spirituals to Hip-Hop, Jazz to Rock & Roll.
 
Hasan Salaam
Hasan Salaam is an emcee, educator and community organizer from New Jersey.
Hasan's weapon has always been "the Truth." His ability to wield it with uncompromising precision has catapulted him in to a global hip hop phenomenon. He's performed live on national TV stations such as NBC, FUSE, CSPAN, and PBS. His music videos have caught the eyes of program directors and, as result, have been played by MTV UK, FUSE, Music Choice, and Video Music Box. He is the winner of 2 Underground Music Awards, and his following has generated over a million plays on Myspace and Youtube alone.
