Catherine Mater Speaks Out on Why She Was Fired from the Oregon Transportation Commission

Why did Governor Kitzhaber fire Catherine Mater from the Oregon Transportaion Commission after she cast the tie-breaking vote against the Port of St Helen's application for $2 million to benefit a coal shipping project with Ambre Energy? In this interview for KBOO with host Roberta Hall, Mater gives a full explanation of the Commission’s process when it considered and rejected a request by the Port of St. Helens for funds to help pay for port improvements to transload coal from a barge on the Columbia to a sea going vessel.

In addition, she talks about the intense pressure that she was under and why she was targeted on the Commission. Other topics include:her commitment to making sure public dollars are spent according to law; her views on coal, oil and sustainability; and
what someone at the Koch Brothers' blog said about her.
