Village Building Convergence 2013
Transforming the City by Day; Celebrating "Community" Together by Night.
City Repair of Portland is organizing volunteers at thirty-eight separate locations around the Vancouver-Portland Metropolitan Areas to help implement various community improvement projects as part of the 13th Annual Village Building Convergence (VCB13) .
BY DAY - At each of the 38 locations, local residents have already decided how to make their own places better. Now it's time to join our neighbors - for 10 days of village engagement! -- as we bring to life the public art displays, permaculture practices, and natural building projects that have been envisioned: benches, community kiosks, gardens, street paintings, tile mosaics, and more! You may also attend workshops and presentations at various locations related to positive change, sustainable living, permaculture, organic gardening, edible native plants, and the like. This aspect of the event is FREE.
Then each night, volunteers from all the placemaking sites gather at one central venue - Alberta Abbey in NE Portland - for a community celebration with food, music from local bands and KBOO Community Radio, as well as dancing! KBOO Community Radio's Dr. J of "The Melting Pot" will be hosting another "Silent Dance Party" on Friday, May 31st, at the Alberta Abbey as part of the VBC13 festivities that night. TICKETS for the evening celebrations are $15 per night in advance, and $20 at the door. Worktrade is available most nights.
There are so many ways to BE THE VILLAGE (Volunteer Today!) at this year's Village Building Convergence sponsored by City Repair of Portland and KBOO Community Radio. WE HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!
