Rose City Radical Revival

Sun, 08/18/2013 - 12:00pm - 6:00pm

The first annual Rose City Radical Revival 2013, is a FREE event supporting the reclaiming of our streets and public spaces through art and creative expression absent of corporatism. This event is a non-violent family friendly celebration in honor of all-of-the important grass roots, (community based) economic, social, environmental, and justice causes out there working diligently to make our world a better place.

This year’s theme is ‘Paradigm Shift’. We are asking individuals and groups to express this theme in some way, and are encouraging folks to be creative in their public display of their cause. This event is intended to be a visual and auditory spectacle of grand pomp and circumstance. Floats, banners, marching bands, dancing, costuming, puppets, props, and other creative expressions are highly welcomed and encouraged!!

Sunday, August 18th 2013

Parade line up to begin at 10am. Parade to start at 12noon.

Colonel Summers Park
SE 17th Ave & Taylor St, Portland, Oregon 97214

The purpose of this event is to serve as a celebration of causes, community networking, as well as fostering public awareness. This event is neither a protest nor a rally. However, our basic message is that creativity, art, and activism are the lifeblood of Portland and comprise our unique history and sense of place. Unfortunately, there have been increasing efforts by the city and the business community to rob the public of our spaces by methodically and meticulously making it more difficult for individuals and community groups to freely assemble. It is also important for us to remember the sacred role of celebration as it pertains to the building of solidarity and community building.

WHAT TO BRING: Please consider this event as a grand celebration! Bring yourselves, your friends, your family. Bring food, literature, and things to pass out to each other and community. Bring floats, banners, music, dance, games, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, puppets, art cars, costumes and other creative expressions you wish to display. Most of all bring your JOY and PASSION!

COST: NOTHING. No cost to enter the parade, no cost to attend, FREE FREE FREE!!!!

PARADE REGISTRATION: If you or your group are a marching band, or wish to bring large objects or moving vehicles for this event we ask that you register with us for parade line up organizing purposes. It is FREE. We just have a short form for you to fill out, and a community safety agreement. This helps us ensure everyone will have the space they need, and to ensure public safety.

• 'Rose City' speaks to our sense of place and local community.

• 'Radical' speaks to getting to the 'root' of conflict AND alternative ways of thinking, seeing, being, and doing.

• 'Revival' speaks to our desire to revive creative passion and connection as it pertains to our individual and collective actions on issues that matter.

• 'Paradigm Shift' speaks to our collective desire for change. Although we differ as individuals and groups in our passions and strategies, our common ground is in our desire for a better world. This is a fundamental unifying element that has the power to UNITE divergent groups for a common purpose. The theme is an opportunity to for others to see this common ground in a single unified act of celebration.

We view ourselves as agents of creative change and seek to build bridges between various groups and causes as a means for fostering a stronger more unified community of activists.
