Pete Seeger Sing-Along and Tribute
On what would have been Pete Seeger's 95th birthday, we honor his life and his legacy with song and remembrances. This event is come and go as you please.
3pm - 6pm Jam Session. All are welcome to sing and play to your heart's content.
5pm - 6:15pm Dinner in the theater while jamming and socializing continue.
6:15 - 6:45pm Short concert video clips of Pete while we share birthday cake.
6:45 - 7:00pm Welcome and thank you's.
7:00 - 7:30pm a talk by JOE HICKERSON with a few special video clips. Joe will be speaking on Pete's early folk influences, the concerts in the early 1950s at Oberlin College, and the song Where Have All the Flowers Gone. For those of you who haven't met Joe, he's a real treasure and we're so lucky to have him here in Portland and available to speak to us. As for credentials, Joe is Head Emeritus, Archive of Folk Song/Culture, American Folklife Center, Library of Congress, and a long-time friend of Pete's.
7:30 - 9:00pm Concert. Performers include: Joe Hickerson, Lauren Sheehan, Linda Leavitt, Ed Cohn, Aurora Chorus Outreach Ensemble, Markist Brothers, Jane Keefer, Banjo Choir, Steve Cooper & Bill Oliver, Mona Warner, Joe Seamons/Ben Hunter. This is not the definitive list. Check back.
9:00 - 10:00pm. Sing-a-long to your favorite Pete Seeger songs. We're taking suggestions from the audience. MC is Ted Kaye.
