Filmmaker Skye Fitzgerald + Write Around Portland

Veteran filmmaker Skye Fitzgerald has built a career taking on danger zones and tough subjects and creating beautiful and moving documentaries. Dmae Roberts features his newest work-in-progress project Oregon Divide looking into the contentious and controversial issue of gun control. We'll also hear an excerpt of his talk last Spring at MHCC's Integrated Media program.  And in the latter part of the program we'll hear a piece on Write Around Portland (WRAP) by producer Steve Greenberg.

Through his production company Spin Film, Sky Fitzgerald  (featured above left) has created films focused on human rights and social justice issues in 20+ countries . He produced with Patti Duncan “The Bombhunters,” about children who dig for landmines in Cambodia to sell the scrap metal and on “Finding Face” about  a Cambodian woman survivor of an acid attack. And on “Peace Commandos” about stockpiles of weapons in the Congo. Fitzgerald has collaborated or received support from the Sundance Institute, the US Institute of Peace, the Fulbright Commission, the State Department and the Paul Robeson Fund. He's shot film for Dateline NBC, CNN, the History Channel, the Weinstein Company, the Travel Channel, Mercy Corps, ABC and Storyville.

Fitzgerald is currently working on a documentary called Oregon Divide, a documentary film focused on the gun control/gun rights debate in Oregon – currently a hotbed of potential gun-safety legislation, against a backdrop of national dialogue on the issue.   Check out his crowdfunder to help support the project: www.indiegogo.com
