Risk/Reward Festival & Coho Summer Solo Shows

Summer heats up with two festivals. The Risk/Reward Festival returns for its sixth year June 21-23 in Portland. Host/Producer Dmae Roberts talks with festival director Jerry Tischleder about the popular West Coast micro-fest pushing artistic boundaries in dance, theatre and music. And in later in the show, we talk with curator/performer Eleanor O'Brien about CoHo Productions' Solo Summer 2013 featuring five female solo artists. (Airs 11am Tues 6/11 on KBOO 90.7FM)

This year’s lineup features: DANCE:  Josh Martin / 605 Collective (Vancouver, BC); Shannon Stewart (Seattle, WA). PERFORMANCE ART: Wayne Bund (Portland, OR); AJA (Seattle, WA). THEATRE: LanceLife (Portland, OR), the Satori Group (Seattle, WA)

JOSH MARTIN / 605 COLLECTIVE (Vancouver, BC) – Leftovers (Solo). Originally from Alberta, Josh Martin is a diversely trained dance artist who’s career-to-date has lead him across North America and Europe, studying and performing in many genres along the way. With an eclectic dance background, he has performed in theatres, clubs, on stages, streets, for film and television and with, recording artists’ music videos and tours.

 The Satori Group (Seattle, WA) – The Land is Always KnownThe Satori Group is a regionally recognized and critically acclaimed theatre ensemble, dedicated to the creation and production of new work and collaborative exchange. We create and present theatrical events, host interdisciplinary forums, and share evolving methods of training and workshop. The twelve Company Members and five Associate Artists invest themselves fully in creating and supporting innovative theatre.

SHANNON STEWART ( Seattle, WA) – Come. Get. To. This.  Shannon Stewart (choreographer) is a dance artist with a proclivity for the enigmatic, dark, nuanced, delicate, comedic, architectural, durational and highly physical elements of dance. She veers towards the inherently unresolvable in an attempt to make performance that feels constructed but not heady; that peels away artifice.

WAYNE BUND (Portland, OR) – Sass ManifestoWayne Bund was born in Portland and raised on a farm in Boring, Oregon. He holds an MFA in Visual Studies from Pacific Northwest College of Art, an MS in Teaching from Pace University, and a BA in Theater from University of Oregon. He comes from a background in theater, and worked as a kindergarten teacher for two years through Teach For America and as a PE teacher at Oregon Episcopal School. He is a 1999 Ford Family Scholar and is an adjunct Assistant Professor at PNCA. Bund has performed at the Ludlow Festival in the U.K. and in Portland with PICAʼs TBA: 09 and TBA:11 festivals.

In the latter part of Stage & Studio, we talk with curator/performer Eleanor O'Brien about CoHo Productions' Solo Summer 2013 featuring five female solo artists throughout June and July.

All of these shows have been performed to critical success around the country and most have been featured on Stage & Studio.  

The Solo Summer 2013 features  the Drammy-award winning My Mind Is Like an Open Meadow to the sold-out GGG:Dominatrix for Dummies to the popular Mr. Darcy Dreamboat, every one of these shows is a proven success and every one of these artists is a tour de force. Also included is Tara Travis' show Til Death: The Six Wives of Henry VIII  that was a  hit at the Canadian fringe festival circuit.

All shows are at Coho Theater located at 2257 NW Raleigh St. in Portland.Showtimes are Thursday – Sunday, June 13th-July 14th (no show on July 4th.

 All shows start at 7:30pm. Tickets – $15/ per show, festival pass $50 (advance tickets available www.cohoproductions.org)
