Old Mole Variety Hour January 10 2014

Air date:
Mon, 02/10/2014 - 9:00am - 10:00am
Short Description:
Democracy in Everyday Life, Steve Early and the labor movement, The Onion as Marixist newspaper

Joe Clement hosts this membership-drive special and we hear:
  • Biill Resnick interviews Frances Moore Lappe, coauthor of Diet for a Small Planet. They discuss democracy in every day life, what it means, and its place in broader politics.
  • Norm Diamond interviews labor journalist and activist, Steve Early, about his new book "Save Our Unions: dispatches from a movement in distress". They discuss the revitalization of the labor movement and directions for renewed militancy and transformative vision. The book will be available as a gift for new and renewing memberships, but supplies are limited.
  • Joe reads a New Republic article that lays out an interesting case for how the satirical online newspaper, The Onion, advances "marxist analyses" of everyday life that resonate according to the old addage "it's funny because it's true".
